Villa Maria, you have done it again with your Cellar Selection Hawke's Bay 2023 Chardonnay, harvested from some of Hawke's Bays finest Chardonnay estates. The juice is wild yeast fermented, largely in French Oak Barriques (10% New), with a smaller portion in stainless steel tanks to deliver a freshness to the finish of this full flavoured Chardonnay. Partial malolactic fermentation has added weight to the mid palate. Maturation on full yeast lees with regular stirring followed in barrel prior to the wine being blended and bottled. A Chardonnay of which many wineries would struggle to emulate the quality of sub $20. It pleases on many levels with drinkers, from novice to very experienced.
Smells
Fragrant fresh citrus and ripe stone fruit, with complex grilled nut oak characters plus a dusting of baking spices.
