he name La Scolca comes from the name “Sfurca” which means viewpoint. In the past there was a farm on the land of La Scolca that served as a lookout post. The name La Scolca is synonymous worldwide with Gavi, a superior dry white wine from Piedmont. In the period 1917-1919 the estate came into the possession of the Soldati family. Nowadays it is Giorgio Soldati who runs the domain together with his daughter Chiara, already the fifth generation. This makes La Scolca the oldest wine company in the region that is still run by one and the same family. The wines of La Scolca are internationally praised by many stars and the Gavi dei Gavi “Black Label” is even the house wine of Queen Elizabeth.
In the glass, this beautiful Gavi has the typical light yellow hay color. In the nose we smell a refined bouquet with hints of peach and other summer fruits, and fresh herbs. In the mouth the wine is fresh, slightly minerally, delicate with a rich body and long aftertaste. This Gavi is delicious to drink standalone and is a perfect accompaniment to salad, fish, seafood, pasta and soft cheeses.
