- BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA POGGIO DI SOTTO 2018 DESCRIPTION
- The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio di Sotto is one of the best excellences of the famous Tuscan denomination, a classic that is now part of the restricted elite of the great reds of our peninsula. The estate is located on the south
- east side, in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate area, traditionally considered among the most suitable crus of the Montalcino hill. Sixteen hectares of vineyards cultivated between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, all with Sangiovese, immersed in an uncontaminated natural environment, where there are also olive groves and large wooded areas. The vineyards have been planted with high density and thanks to careful and strict management, they produce only 30/35 quintals per hectare, always guaranteeing a high quality harvest.
- The Riserva Poggio di Sotto is the result of careful selection work, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. During the second half of September, the manual harvest takes place with a choice of only the best bunches, which are then taken to the cellar in small crates. Before fermentation, the grapes are subjected to a second selection and only the best bunches are sent for vinification. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats, with very long macerations and frequent pumping over. The wine matures in 30 hectolitre oak barrels and only after a series of tastings is the best barrel chosen to become Riserva. The refinement period lasts 60 months in wood and only at the end of this long journey is it bottled without filtering. The refinement ends with a year in the bottle before being put on sale.
- Brunello di Montalcino Riserva represents the essence of the territory, its most noble, intense and long
- lived expression, destined to gratify the palates of the most demanding enthusiasts for years. In the glass it has a bright ruby red colour. It expresses a complex and elegant bouquet, with aromas of small red fruits, spicy notes and a balsamic touch. On the palate it is deep and powerful, with great structure, important tannic texture and pleasantly fresh finish. The finish is long and persistent. A great red, which at the table finds the best pairings with roast red meats or game.
