Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi also makes delicious wines in Alicante in addition to its Riojas. In Alicante, viticulture was already flourishing under the Phoenicians, well before our era. Here it is the monastrell grape that strikes the clock. The flagship of the Alicante wine region is undoubtedly this El Seque. None other than Juan Carlos López de Lacalle (owner/winemaker of bodegas Artadi in Rioja) is the creator of this El Seque. This is a wine made from Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre. The vines of this wine were planted in 1945. After a very careful selection of vineyards, the Monastrell grapes from the oldest plots are used to produce this great wine with an authentic Mediterranean character. Aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, medium toast, partly new, partly 1 to 2 years old.
