The jewel in the crown of Ployez-Jacquemart, there was no denying the excitement in our tasting room when this wine was opened. The bouquet is so eerily reminiscent of Grand Cru white Burgundy, the room went silent, before the delighted murmuring soon began. The blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir & Meunier was fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 6 months (without malolactic fermentation). An unfathomable 12 years aging on lees in cellars manifests in the wine with incredible richness and depth, but without the merest hint of tiredness thanks to the 'sur pointe' aging technique in bottle. At almost 20 years of age, Liesse d'Harbonville is quite simply one of the greatest Champagnes we have ever tried...
