Lancome was founded in France in 1935 by Armand Petitjean, who took inspiration for the name of the brand from the ruins of the Le Chateau de Lancosme castle in the heart of the country. Lancome presented its first perfumes at the Worlds Fair in Brussels in the same year, and Lancome soon began manufacturing cosmetics and skin care products, but the perfumes upon which Lancome made its name remain the cornerstone of the brand.
