Louis Roederer has just been awarded Drinks Biz annual “Most Admired Champagne†for 6/7 years, many prominent houses including Krug, Billecart
Salmon, Laurent Perrier, Perrier Jouet, Charles Heidsieck and more are yet to win this prestigious Champagne award. What's sets apart Louis Roederer's Collection NV Champagne from other NV French Champagnes? Almost all NV Champagne consist of a majority of one vintage topped up with reserve holdings of older cuvees... the best examples having circa 20% of reserve wines. These aged cuvees significantly influence flavour complexity and the texture. Louis Roederer have upped the bar to the penthouse literally, almost beyond the reach of others. Collection 244... is their 244th NV release since the establishment of the Louis Roederer House in 1776. The final blend is 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 26% Meunier. Just 54% of the cuvee is from the current vintage of the time... in this case 2019. This is where it gets serious... 10% reserve wines aged in oak and sourced from young Cristal vines (including 2012, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 vintages) are added. Then the House adds an extraordinary 36% of a multi
vintage Reserve perpetuelle cuvee containing equal parts 2012
2018. The effects on taste, texture, finesse, length are palpable. Serious history, right there. Enjoy Collection 244 while young and fresh... it will immediately take you to a place of peace and escape and etch a smile on your face.
Smells
A finely interwoven bouquet of green apples and berry fruit and twist of citrus
the complexity and depth of the aged reserve and perpetual cuvees adds threads of honey, beeswax, and freshly toasted sourdough.
