Description
Portugal is the current new mover in the global wine world, its been building over the last 2 decades. Renowned for their Ports… they have been making red wines for centuries and the outside world has discovered them in legions in the last 10
20 years. These days through the co
operative, village type approach they are returning to their ancient winemaking roots in the sub region of Redondo, undeniably a wine region whose long history is linked to vineyard culture dating back to Roman times. The soils are predominantly granite and shale outcrops. The days are long and hot, the nights are cool and the climate dry. That means ripe fruit, balanced natural acidity, and purity of flavour. Fruit yields are naturally lower, therefore the wines surprisingly concentrated at such modest everyday prices. That is a whole lot of positives right there, especially in these tough economic times. Porta de Ravessa is a blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Alicante Bouchet, and Castel£o grapes, simply engaging drinking at the price, which is why Portuguese red sales are headed up in an otherwise globally declining market. I found the Porta de Ravessa a delicious, very appealing red with plenty of intrigue, smooth throughout the palate with persisting breadth on the lingering finish. It's the perfect BBQ wine, a simple meal at home wine, or take to your local BYO. All bases covered with this red, in fact its so good for the money we predict youll be back for more.
