The d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2016 is one of the most intensely fruited releases of this legendary McLaren Vale label in the last 21+ years. The term Dead Arm refers to a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. One half, or an 'arm' of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless, but the grapes on the other side, display amazing intensity. Dead Arm is famous for its concentration, brought about by all the vines energy being channelled into one (instead of the two canes). In its youth the trademark dark, savoury notes are restrained... to the fore are the classic dark chocolate and black fruit characters that we love about the great Shiraz of McLaren Vale. Just a baby, it can be enjoyed now for its luxuriant fruit characters or cellared for another 15+ years to reach its full complex potential.
