Château Beychevelle is located at the beginning of the municipality of the same name and is the first château you see when you enter the municipality. The castle is magnificent, and was formerly called the "Versailles du Médoc". In Saint Julien, Beychevelle lived a high-ranking admiral. All ships entering the Gironde had to salute, and did so by lowering the sails "baisser les Voiles". The name "Beychevelle" is said to be derived from that. Since 2011, the castle has changed owners. It is now owned by Pierre Castel (the well-known négociant merchant in Bordeaux and elsewhere in France) and by the Japanese group Suntory (also owner of Ch. Lagrange).
