The Hourglass HG III Red Blend is of course made by Tony Biag, Jeff & Carolyn Smith from the Hourglass Estate vineyards located in the Napa Valley Appellation. It is a blend of Merlot, Petit Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon which has matured for 16 months in a mix of new and used French oak. In the glass, the HG III has a deep purple-black color and opens on the nose with notes of warm black plums, mulberries and chocolate cake with hints of fallen leaves, baking spices and a hint of wild sage. Full bodied with plenty of spiced plum flavors on the palate it has a smooth texture and a long, spicy finish.
