The name La Scolca comes from the name "Sfurca" which means viewpoint. In the past there was a farm on the land of La Scolca that served as a lookout. The name La Scolca is synonymous worldwide with Gavi, a superior dry white wine from Piemonte. In the period 1917-1919, the estate came into the possession of the Soldati family. Nowadays it is Giorgio Soldati who runs the domain together with his daughter Chiara, already the fifth generation. This makes La Scolca the oldest wine company in the region that is still run by one and the same family. The wines of La Scolca are internationally praised by many stars and the Gavi dei Gavi "Black Label" is even Queen Elizabeth's house wine.
