- Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana€ is one of the most important and representative labels of the Tenuta delle Terre Nere, one of the reference producers of the Etna area. Among the first to create labels dedicated to the individual parcels of the company, Terre Nere has classified the Contrada Calderara Sottana among the best ever, always capable of producing wines of extraordinary quality. A particular microclimate and suitable soils allow for the production of a red wine with a strong personality, elegant and intense. It is a wine that seduces with aromas of small berries, spicy and mineral hints of great finesse.
- The Rosso “Calderara Sottana” is a wine classified as a Grand Cru by Tenuta delle Terre Nere. The winery manages an estate on the northern slope of Etna, with vineyards in the Contrade: Calderara, Guardiola, Feudo di Mezzo, Santo Spirito and San Lorenzo, cultivated between 600 and 900 meters above sea level. Calderara Sottana has a unique personality. The soils are characterized by the presence of stones composed of black pumice and basalt, the result of lava flows resulting from volcanic activity dating back 60,000
- 15,000 years. This is the oldest soil on Etna, which has not been covered by more recent flows and has always been considered the most suitable of all. The Calderara vines are cultivated between 600 and 700 meters and are between 50 and 100 years old. It is an area that has always been highly regarded for its elegant and complex wines, which are among the best excellences of the Etna terroir.
- The “Calderara Sottana” wine is an Etna Rosso produced by Tenuta delle Terre Nere with grapes grown in the Contrada of the same name, coming from old Nerello Mascalese vines with a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are fermented in steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 28
