FREISA 'KYˆ' VAJRA 2022 DESCRIPTION
- Vajra's Freisa "Ky" represents the full redemption of this Piedmontese vine that is too often forgotten in the face of other great Piedmontese classics from the Nebbiolo grape variety. A philosophy already present in the name; Ky, or "Who is it?"; a name that embodies the natural surprise of finding, as Giuseppe Vajra loves to repeat, this rare variety in its most profound interpretation. Freisa is a vine with ancient origins; just think that there are documents about it that date back to the beginning of the sixteenth century, while towards the end of the eighteenth century we find the first description of Freisa, placed by Count Giuseppe Nuvolone
- Pergamo, director of the Experimental Garden of the Royal Agricultural Society of Turin, among the top quality black Piedmontese grapes. Vajra, a historic and important reality of the Langhe, has decided to re
- propose a new version of Freisa, more modern, but still tied to traditions.
- Traditions made from a deep bond with Nebbiolo, but characterized by a difficulty of cultivation and certainly greater yield. The Freisa "Ky" of Vajra comes from the San Ponzio Vineyard, in the Municipality of Barolo, on vines located between 390 and 410 meters above sea level, on soil rich in clay; a soil that guarantees a wine with a beautiful structure, also fueled by a rather long fermentation that transfers the tannins from the grapes to the wine.
- The refinement extended for 12
- 18 months partly in Slavonian oak barrels and partly in barriques further transforms this Freisa that presents itself with a deep ruby red color and that immediately offers complex and intense notes of red berries, tobacco, roses and white pepper. We are faced with a great Piedmontese red wine that shows itself in all its charm and that finally rediscovers that it is not inferior to the other great Piedmontese reds
