Brackla Distillery was founded in 1817 and was the first in Scotland to receive a Royal Warrant by order of King William IV in 1835. The distillery was primarily tasked with providing malt for Scotch blends and was one of several distilleries forced to be closed due to overproduction in the 1980s. It was then sold, along with several others, by Dewar's to Bacardi in 1998. A few independent bottlings followed until 2014 when it was released under its own namesake brand. This particular one was distilled in December 2008 and matured in hogshead ex-bourbon casks before being bottled in September 2022 in 225 bottles. Its aromatic profile is distinguished by hints of cream, dark chocolate and yeast while in the mouth it becomes more fruity and acidic leading to an unexpected aftertaste.
