Ch¢teau Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to these "beautiful pebbles", called Gunzian gravels, quartz pebbles carried by the primitive Gironde at the beginning of the ancient Quaternary, probably nearly two million years ago. You only have to walk through the vineyards to get an abundant lithological harvest. Pyrenean Lydian, flint, quartz, agatoid...
