Mate is a traditional drink originating from South America , particularly popular in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay which is prepared from the dried and crushed leaves of a shrub called Ilex paraguariensis, also known as yerba mate.

How to prepare your mate in a calabash?

Pour the mate to ¾ of the gourd

Shake up and down to mix the leaves

Tilt the gourd at 45° to form the well and add cold water.

Insert the bombilla into the well

Pour hot water (between 70°C and 80°C) into the bombilla

Your mate is ready

After you have drunk all the infused water from your gourd, repeat step 5. You can keep the same mate in your gourd and drink it throughout the day.
