- Mausole asylum in France. These were to be one of his last series of paintings in they were painted in the last year before his death in 1890. The painting is said to be influenced by Japanese woodblock prints due to the strong outlines and unusual angles. Despite this painting being one of his last, it is one the most renowned works he produced, being one of the most expensive pieces sold at auction in history.
