• 2011 Tenuta dell Ornellaia Jeroboam
"Ornellaia is one of the worlds top-flight wines, whose investment returns exhibit the most consistent growth over time a level of performance whose percentage exceeds the average of the top ten French wines. Liv-ex (The exchange for collectible or investment grade fine wine.) Italys value share of the fine wine market has grown from 1% in 2007 to over 6% by December 2013. Average quotes for Ornellaia on the Liv-ex trading platform and Sothebys auction house have doubled in value between 2007 and today. Ac-cording to Stephen Mould, head of Sothebys European wine department Ornellaia topped our ranking as the leading Ital-ian wine estate sold at Sothebys in 2013.Ornellaia 2011 Production Notes 51% Cabernet Sauvignon 32% Merlot 11% Cabernet Franc 6% Petit VerdotAfter a significantly delayed 2010 vintage, 2011 was marked by very hot, dry weather, which brought on an earlier than av-erage harvest. Exceptionally, harvesting concluded in the final days of September. 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation took place primarily in oak barriques, 70% new and 30% once-used. The wine then remained in barriques, for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine was assembled and then returned to the barriques for an additional 6 months. After bottling, the wines aged a further 12 months prior to release. 96+ /100 Antonio Galloni, The 2011 Ornellaia is another gorgeous wine. Mocha, plums, tobacco and licorice blossom from the glass in a rich, seam-less wine endowed with stunning depth. Savory notes develop later, adding depth and resonance. The 2011 looks to have a broad drinking window that is sure to provide many stages of pleasure over the next 20+ years. 96/100 Wine Spectator, A dark, inky red, featuring violet, black currant, cedar, sandalwood and iron aromas and flavors. Nonetheless, this comes across as elegant, even as the tannins prove formidable on the finish. A terrific young wine in the making. Best from 2017 through 2035. 96/100 points James Suckling, This shows incredible concentration with dark-berry, dark-chocolate, mint and rosemary character. Full body with a superb depth of fruit and polished tannins. It's chewy but caressing. This needs at least four or five years to come around. Powerful and intense. Yet it remains fresh and bright."
