Some of the world's finest white wines are produced in Puligny-Montrachet. The most famous and probably the best of them all comes from the Le Montrachet field. Puligny-Montrachet is a village located in the Côte de Beaune region of the Côte-d'Or. The region is best known for producing white wines from the Chardonnay grape, although some Pinot Noir is grown (only two hectares) and relatively hard to find. Like other neighboring villages in search of fame (and of course fortune), in 1879 Puligny added its name to the famous Grand Cru vineyard, "Montrachet".
