The roots of Brane Cantenac can be traced back to the early 18th century. At the time it was owned by the Gorce family and was known as Château Gorce (and for a while as Château Gorce Guy). Today, the Château consists of 90 hectares of vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The largest vineyard covers 45 hectares and is located next to the Château on the plateau de Brane. The 2nd vineyard (22 hectares) is located further north near Soussans. The other vineyards are further south near Arsac. The terroir consists mainly of gravel, but to a lesser extent also of sand and clay. This Margaux consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baron de Brane is the second wine of Château Brane Cantenac and this Margaux de Brane is the 3rd wine of Château Brane Cantenac.
