The series of wines labeled Director's are blends from the various appellations of Sonoma County, home of winemaker Corey Beck. Director's Pinot Noir is a blend of fruits from Carneros and Russian River Valley. This combination is entitled to the designation of origin “Sonoma Coastâ€. The grapes from Carneros are earthy in character, firm, with some spice. Those from Russian River are very intense and rich, due to the even cooler microclimate. The grapes are harvested in the early hours of the morning, which is essential for preserving the Pinot Noir's fruit. Fermentation in large wooden barrels that are open at the top, with the daily breaking of the 'cap', the layer of skins on the wine, provide a lot of color and a powerful taste. The wine then matures in special Burgundy barrels, which perfectly respect the subtle character of the Pinot Noir. The wood rounds off the wine nicely and provides a beautiful elegance. It matures for six months in barrels, of which 70% French and 30% Hungarian oak. 20% of the barrels are new.
