The Fuligni family lived in the Tuscan Maremma at the beginning of the 20th century. To escape the malaria, the family moved to Montalcino and in 1923 bought the Cottimelli estate from Gontrano Biondi Santi, named after the 16th-century monastery that stood there. This is the classic zone where Brunello had always been made. Fuligni also bought an 18th-century palazzo in the center of Montalcino with beautiful vaulted cellars where wines are still aged today. The vines, which extend over ten hectares, are mainly in Cottimelli at altitudes ranging from 380 to 450 meters above sea level. Here the land, which is mainly oriented to the east, belongs entirely to the geological formation of Santa Fiora (marl) of Eocene origin and consists of mainly rocky terrain.
